The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce is embarking on a new era with the appointment of long-time Victorian John Wilson as its new chief executive officer.
Wilson, who is well-known in Victoria’s business community, is the CEO of The Wilson’s Group of Companies, a family-owned ground transportation and tour company based in the city. Serving the community since 1980, it is now one of the largest and most diverse transportation providers in the province. The company has been led by three generations of the Wilson family alongside its dedicated team.
Wilson, who will take office on July 15, succeeds Bruce Williams as CEO.
“I’m humbled to be offered this position, and grateful for the opportunity to serve our community by continuing my work with the chamber,” said Wilson. “This is an organization that aligns with the values I’ve always brought to business.”
Chamber board chair Christina Clarke said Wilson was selected because of his business experience, leadership, contributions to the community — including 13 years serving as chair of the chamber — as well as his connections to decision-makers across the region.
Williams, who led the chamber through COVID-19 and the post-pandemic recovery during his five years as CEO, said Wilson was a valued colleague — Wilson served as board chair for part of that period.
“I found great value and insight in our collaboration through those difficult times,” said Williams. “John was born and raised in Greater Victoria and has a unique perspective on our local economy. Family has always been John’s priority and we are proud to welcome him into the Chamber family.”
Wilson returned the compliment.
“I want to thank Bruce Williams for his amazing tenure and recognize him for his extraordinary job raising the profile of the Chamber,” said Wilson. “I won’t try to fill his shoes, but I will carry on his success, and I look forward to doing my part to realize the vision of our amazing volunteer board of directors.”
