On the evening of Friday, July 12, Power To Be held their very first Nature Gala (formally known as Power To Golf); a fundraising event which raises money for the charity’s mission of removing barriers to the outdoors for people with disabilities or barriers. The event was held at the ocean-front property of Terry and Carol Johnston and hosted more than 400 respected guests. The event, which resulted in $555,000 donated for Power To Be’s inclusive programs, featured fine food and entertainment. The evening concluded with a musical performance from award-winning, Canadian singer, Sarah McLachlan, who dazzled the crowd with her charismatic performance.
“We are so humbled by the generous contributions our supporters have made to ensure everyone in our community has access to nature, “says Dana Hutchings, Power To Be Director of Advancement and Communication. “The event was a fantastic success and we are so grateful to everyone who made it possible and who donated to support Power To Be’s programs and mission.”
Nature Gala also involved a silent auction with more than 50 donated items, such as vacations, dinners, concert and sports tickets, and artwork. Five world-renowned chefs provided the evening’s culinary experience, including Chef Amanda Cohen (Dirt Candy), Chef Kristian Eligh (Toptable group), Chef Justin Leboe (Model Milk/ Pigeonhole), Chef Nicholas Waters (Toque Catering), and Chef Takashi Ito (Aura), and all served up incredible, refined dishes throughout the night.
Guests were invited to place bids on the silent auction items as well as participate in Power To Be’s “Fill the Canoe” campaign. The combined efforts of these donation opportunities resulted in an astonishing total of $555,000 raised to support Power To Be’s inclusive adventure programs. The event and its success were made possible through the generous support of both sponsors and donors, who continue to stand by Power To Be’s mission and values.
In addition, to the money raised to support Power To Be’s programs, the Bank of Montreal generously donated $225,000 to help fund Power To Be’s Prospect Lake site.
