South Island Prosperity Partnership elects new Board

South Island Prosperity Partnership (SIPP), Greater Victoria’s economic development alliance, has announced its Board of Directors for 2024/25, with Terry Gunning taking over from Frank Bourree as Chair. Camosun College awarded $600,000 in research grants

Last week we told you over 30 Red Seal graduates from a range of trades crossed the stage at Camosun College’s convocation ceremony making them among the first in the country.

The College has also just announced it is one of only three institutions in Canada to be awarded three Applied Research Tools and Instruments (ARTI) grants, totalling around $600,000, to support local industry innovation and equip students with the real-world skills employers need.

The College and Community Innovation (CCI) program is the primary federal funding vehicle for college applied research. It is intended to strengthen research links and collaborations among Canadian colleges and partners from the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors to create economic, social, health and environmental benefits.

Awards were given for Advanced Manufacturing Testing Equipment, CNC and CMM Fabrication Equipment and Fiber Laser Cutting Equipment.

South Island FarmHub raising funds to support its work

The South Island FarmHub a produce aggregation and distribution centre with an online farmers’ market that includes over 85 local farmers and food producers, is promoting its 50/50 raffle campaign, which runs until September 2, 2024.

All raffle proceeds will go to the Farmbucks program, which connects local food-insecure families and individuals with nutritious food boxes and meals from local farmers and food producers. Since 2020, the Farmbucks program has supported over 30 organizations and 6 school programs to feed over 15,000 community members.

South Island FarmHub’s goal is to make delicious, local food more accessible, support our local farming community, and close the loop on hunger. The FarmHub is operated by the Victoria Community Food Hub Society, a registered charity.
