TELUS Joins Foster's 'Miracle'

The David Foster Foundation is pleased to announce that TELUS has come on board as the marquee sponsor of the foundation’s May 25-27 Miracle Concert and gala weekend in Victoria as it celebrates its 25th anniversary year.

“TELUS is pleased to support the exceptional work being done by the David Foster Foundation and we are proud of their tireless efforts to assist organ recipient families at a time when it is needed most,” says Mel Cooper, chairman of the TELUS Victoria Community Board. “For 25 years, the David Foster Foundation has helped more than 700 families across Canada. Together, we will continue to support transplant recipients and their families and raise awareness of the importance of organ donation in Canada.”

In addition to the TELUS sponsorship announcement, David Foster, 16-time Grammy Award winner and chairman of the foundation — via Skype — announced that concert single ticket sales for the 25th Anniversary Miracle Concert & Gala will go on sale on Thursday, March 1.

“I am so excited to be coming back home to Victoria — my hometown,” said Foster. “To be able to celebrate our 25th anniversary with the Victoria community who supported the foundation from the very beginning is a thrill for me.”

Foster announced that Josh Groban, Kenny G, and American Idol winner Ruben Studdard had joined the growing list of entertainers who will join him May 26 for the Miracle Concert at Save on Foods Memorial Centre. He said he might approach Nanaimo’s Diane Krall to be involved and is “working on” securing another big star to add to the lineup, which will also include the Canadian Tenors.

In August 2011, the Tenors were named as the first act on board for this once-in-a-lifetime concert. Foster also revealed that some big names from his very first Miracle Concert — Wayne Gretzky and possibly Rob Lowe — will be on hand for the 25th anniversary event.

Josh GrobanIn December, Foster took on a new role as chairman of Universal’s Verve Music Group, and via Skype he told Douglas how he juggles his creative side as a performer and producer, his business interests as a record label executive, and his philanthropic endeavours with his namesake foundation.

“You know, it’s exciting to come full circle with such a great label like Verve, but I’ve finally learned, albeit at a very late age, that you can find people to do the heavy lifting for you, in the business world,” he said. “I’m hiring good people, and putting together a great team of people around me who are going to make me look really smart.”

Tickets for the Miracle Concert & Gala go on sale March 1 at noon through Select Your Tickets at the Save on Foods Memorial Centre box office, by phone at 250-220-7777, or online. Ticket prices range from $75, $125, and a limited number of $250 VIP seats and are subject to applicable taxes and service charges.
