TORONTO, October 7, 2015 – The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) has announced the winners of the 2015 Canadian Shopping Centre Awards competition, recognizing Canada’s most innovative shopping centres for outstanding achievement in marketing, development and design, and retail store design. ICSC has named Hillside Centre, located in Victoria, British Columbia, as a Gold winner in the marketing category for their OceanWall initiative.
Hillside Centre, located in Victoria, unveiled Canada’s first OceanWall in November 2014 as a means to educate and raise awareness of the conversancy of the Salish Sea that surrounds Vancouver Island. The massive wall has been viewed by an estimated 1.8 million shoppers and recorded 134,070 user engagements over a seven-month period. Additionally, Hillside engaged 1,510 shoppers in conversation around ocean conservancy through OceanTalks and themed events. The centre formed a Sea Rangers Club to educate young ocean lovers, which has 230 active members to date, and generated mass awareness through 41 news stories and 12,195,295 impressions.

The 2015 ICSC Canadian Shopping Centre Awards competition were open to shopping centre owners, developers, management companies, architects and designers, and retailers. ICSC announced the winners during an awards ceremony at ICSC’s Canadian Convention in Toronto.
