Fortin to Seek Re-election

Dean Fortin will seek re-election as the mayor of Victoria in November’s municipal elections.

In a June 27 statement announcing his intentions, he said:
“For the last three years, it has been a great honour to serve the people of Victoria as your mayor.
“Working together, we have made significant progress on important priorities key to the health and success of our city: tackling homelessness, investing in affordable housing, improving our downtown core, enhancing alternative transportation, and promoting environmental stewardship.
“We have real momentum on these issues, and I remain deeply committed to building on that momentum.
“At every step of the way, citizens have driven our success. And I want to thank all Victorians for the commitment you have shown to this community.  We are a better, more confident city because of the work of so many people, all pulling in the same direction.
“I believe we have made great strides, but there is still much to do.

Now is our opportunity to build on our success by making Victoria a leader in economic innovation and growth.   We have all the advantages — the people, the skills, the environment, and the know-how. But we need continued leadership at City Hall that can bring people together to get the job done.
“I believe I provide that kind of leadership. And that is why I have decided to put my name forward for re-election as the mayor of Victoria.
“As your mayor, I am committed to a city where social justice, a healthy environment, and economic innovation go hand in hand — where quality of life is supported by quality of opportunity. Together we can grow our city, support all of our residents and meet the social, environmental and fiscal challenges ahead.
“Victoria enjoys a strong reputation as one of the world’s most liveable and sustainable cities, but there is no room for complacency. I believe I have the energy and the drive to lead our city forward, to ensure Victoria continues to the best place in Canada to live, work, raise a family, and build a career.
“I have had the great pleasure to be part of an excellent team of councillors, whose dedication to this city is truly remarkable. I am excited to put my name forward once again to work with the next team of people granted the honour of serving the City of Victoria.”
