Victoria, BC – February 10, 2016 – Discover Tectoria is the Island’s BIGGEST Tech Expo and will feature 70 local tech companies exhibits, the BCIC Startup Alley, UVic Research District, the Video Game Lounge, flying drones, robots, food trucks, science shows and panel discussions.
Discover Tectoria is an event for everyone; youth get a glimpse into a future working in tech, post-secondary students and job seekers get to meet potential employers, local and visiting investors can check out some up-and-coming businesses, and tech companies get to showcase their products and services to over 3500 attendees.
“We created this event to showcase innovation in Victoria so everyone can see just how big and important the tech sector is in our city,” explains Dan Gunn, CEO of VIATEC (Victoria Innovation, Advanced Technology & Entrepreneurship Council). “We call it ‘Discover Tectoria’ because that’s what we expect people to do.”
VIATEC is taking full advantage of the tri-city Pro-D Day scheduled on the same day and is encouraging parents to bring their kids to enjoy a full day of exploration. Students and their parents receive free admission and there are complimentary tickets available in Douglas Magazine, Victoria News, Saanich News and Oak Bay News community papers leading up to the 19th.
Simultaneously, leading Victoria institutions including VIATEC and the City of Victoria are hosting a Capital Mission for a contingent of visiting investors from February 17 to 19. This Capital Mission will provide investors from San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver an in-depth opportunity to discover all that Victoria has to offer. The trip begins at Fort Tectoria, with an introduction to the Island as a home and workplace. From there, visitors will enjoy discovering Victoria’s various museums, with culinary corners and high potential tech companies. The trip will finish with a visit to Discover Tectoria.
Speaking of culinary corners, Deadbeetz, Pig BBQ Joint, The Love Perogy and Puerto Vallarta Amigos food trucks will be serving their creations from 11am to 6pm across the street at the Royal BC Museum for Discover Tectoria attendees to enjoy.
