Nominations are now open until April 1st for one of the largest and most thrilling technology award shows in the country. This year, the VIATEC Awards will be held on Friday, June 14th, 2019 at the Royal Theatre in Victoria, BC.
Last year’s show saw a record breaking 1100+ attendees with a new format at the Royal Theatre (previously being held at the Victoria Conference Centre). This gala brings the community together to enjoy a night of unexpected entertainment and celebration of the best and brightest local technology companies and the show is expected to reach a new record attendance this year.
“VIATEC’s key roles include convening our tech community, promoting our tech sector and holding up examples of people and companies doing it right… the VIATEC Awards cover all three,” says Dan Gunn, CEO of VIATEC (the Victoria Innovation, Advanced Technology & Entrepreneurship Council). “We are honoured to once again put our hearts and souls into delivering a memorable and fun evening where our members can laugh, shine and learn more about each other.”
VIATEC recently released an Economic Impact Study that shows the technology sector in Greater Victoria has a total economic impact of $5.22 billion and employs 16,775 people.

The VIATEC Awards a unique way for local tech firms to get increased profile with local media, policymakers and their peers which always helps when looking to hire new staff, find new customers or raise investment.
In total, 15 awards that come in the form of a locally custom-made robot trophy, are being presented at the awards show, 11 of which are currently open for nominations:
- Emerging Leader of the Year
- Leader of the Year
- Innovative Excellence – (Software/Service)
- Innovative Excellence – (Hardware)
- Product of the Year
- Team of the Year
- Employer of the Year
- Start-Up of the Year
- Scale-Up of the Year
- Technology Company of the Year (11-29 employees)
- Technology Company of the Year (30+ employees)
In addition to the above categories are the following appointed awards, which will have recipients revealed when finalists are announced:
- Angel of the Year
- VIATEC Member of the Year
- Community Champion
- Colin Lennox Award for Technology Champion
