Jul 09, 2010

(News Release) VICTORIA – Bear Mountain Resort is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Gary Cowan as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the premiere master-planned resort development, that in 2009 earned a spot on Conde Nast Traveler 2009 Readers’ Choice Awards.

As CEO, Mr. Cowan brings to Bear Mountain a wealth of experience and a unique combination of senior management and legal expertise. A seasoned real estate professional, Mr. Cowan’s professional background captures office, retail, hotel and residential projects and includes major land developments such as the Waterfront Centre (office and hotel) and Coal Harbour in downtown Vancouver. Most recently, Mr. Cowan oversaw the development of the Whistler Athletes’ Village for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games which consisted of housing units for over 2,500 athletes.

“I welcome this opportunity to be involved in a development project that started with such a strong vision,” said Mr. Cowan. “Though early days, I am optimistic that with the appropriate course corrections, Bear Mountain Resort will continue
to make its mark on the world stage as a highly desired lifestyle-community, and as a premier golf destination.”

Mr. Cowan assumes overall leadership in the strategic planning, operations and financial performance of the Bear Mountain Resort. Mr. Rob Holmes, Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO), will continue at Bear Mountain Resort working with Mr. Cowan for a period of transition.

Last month, Bear Mountain welcomed more than 10,000 visitors, sponsors, organizers, media and five elite professional golfers to the TELUS World Skins Game. Following this widely acclaimed success, the appointment of Mr. Cowan signifies a strong commitment to the future of Bear Mountain Resort and is a reflection of the progress made to date by the CRO and the resort staff during this restructuring period.
