Canadian College Of Performing Arts Announces New Directors

Jul 06, 2010

(News Release) VICTORIA – The Board of Directors of the Canadian College of Performing Arts (CCPA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ron Schuster as College Director, and Darold Roles as Artistic and Education Director, effective July 15, 2010.

Professional actors, directors and producers, Mr. Schuster and Mr. Roles are both relocating from Red Deer, Alberta. They bring with them a wealth of experience in education, business and arts management. Mr. Schuster is an Arts Administrator and most recently served as Executive Director of Culture Link in Red Deer. Mr. Roles has served as Dean of Arts and as Chair of Performing Arts at Red Deer College, where he has been on faculty until the end of this school year.  Mr. Schuster and Mr. Roles were co-founders and co-Artistic Directors of KOMPANY!, a professional song and dance company that toured across North America, Europe, Japan and Australia from 1979 - 2007.

Janis Dunning and Jacques Lemay, co-founders of CCPA, retired from the College at the end of the school year.  The Board of Directors appointed Victoria business consultant Eric Partridge as Interim College Director to assist with the transition to new leadership, and at the same time launched a nation-wide search for two new leaders of the College.

Ms. Dunning, Mr. Lemay and the members of the Board were unanimous in their choice of Mr. Schuster and Mr. Roles to lead the College toward a bright and distinctive future. "We are delighted that in Ron and Darold we have found the expertise and experience needed to maintain the caliber of training that employers have come to expect from our students, and to lead the College through the development and implementation of a strategic plan that will ensure the stability and
sustainability of this significant arts and educational facility," declared CCPA board president Tony Belcher.

The Canadian College of Performing Arts will host a record number of students in September and Mr. Schuster and Mr. Roles are already rolling up their sleeves in anticipation.  "I'm honoured to follow in the footsteps of the founders of CCPA", said Schuster, "and am very excited to work with the Board of Directors in developing a capital campaign to find or build a permanent home where the college can continue its nationally renowned training".

Mr. Roles is thrilled to be working with the gifted students of CCPA. "I have worked with and watched CCPA grads over the past few years", he said, "and I know them to be multi-talented and creative with an admiral work ethic that keeps them employed."    He notes that the College's greatest asset is the extraordinary talent, passion and commitment of the faculty and staff.  "Each of them has an equal investment in the growth and success of the College and of our students," he said.  "My goal is to uphold the high caliber of work CCPA is respected for and to propel the artistic and education standards into a fantastic future."

Since it was founded by Jacques Lemay and Janis Dunning in 1998, the Canadian College of Performing Arts has offered training in a broad spectrum of skills to prepare students for careers in the performing arts locally, nationally or internationally. The College provides a stimulating, positive and constructive environment where students from across the country are encouraged to develop high standards of work ethics and conduct.  The College is a centre of performing arts
education and performance and makes a vital contribution to the cultural and economic fabric of our region, and the nation.
