John McConnell - A Celtic Journey

Eclectic Gallery

More

For contemporary Irish painter John McConnell, Ireland is a spiritual home. Widely known for his “Journey of an Ancient Soul” series, McConnell was elected full membership in the prestigious Artist’s Association of Ireland, AAI, in 1998. After a seven year sojourn to his homeland, he moved to Vancouver Island in 2004. Previously, McConnell was Director of Art Education at Appleby College in Oakville, Ontario. Widely collected on both sides of the Atlantic, his Irish landscapes and soul series reflect mystic journeys transcending time.

"The Drowsy Chaperone"

Langham Court Theatre

More

Langham Court Theatre is proud to present five-time Tony Award-winning Canadian musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone with book by Bob Marin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. Directed by Langham Court veteran Roger Carr (The History Boys, The Laramie Project), musical direction by Donna Williams, choreography by Jacques Lemay, set design by Bill Adams, and lighting design by Karrie Wolfe.

The story begins in the shabby Manhattan apartment of a quirky, lonely gentleman known only as “Man in Chair.” He speaks directly to the audience about life, love, and his favourite pasttime, live theatre. He invites the audience to listen along with him as he plays the album of his loved (fictional) 1928 musical comedy from musical theatre’s golden age called The Drowsy Chaperone. As the needle falls, the fourth wall shatters and the musical comes to life around him.

In French with English surtitles

This girl is trouble. Bad, beguiling, and dangerous to know, Carmen will never let herself be chained down by any one man. When she fixes on Don José as her next (but certainly not her last) lover, the naïve but volatile young soldier hasn't a chance. He follows her into a life of crime. Tragedy is inevitable, but what a ride along the way!

In CARMEN the romance of the French language is coupled with sizzling Spanish dance rhythms and erotically charged music to make this the sexiest opera of all.

CARMEN features Allyson McHardy in the title role with Eric Fennell as Don José. The production is directed by Dennis Garnhum with conductor Timothy Vernon and the Victoria Symphony.

SME Victoria presents - Social Media For Business: Put the “+” in Google+

Union Club of Victoria

More

With the recent launch of Google+ "Brand Pages" and a feature called "Direct Connect", Google is firmly integrating (+) into its dominant search platform.

"Direct Connect" allows searchers to insert a “+” before their query and jump directly to a business’s Google+ page. Type “+YouTube” into your Google search box, and Google will take you straight to YouTube’s G+ page.

These two factors give Google+ users and any “brand page” a competitive advantage when it comes to search visibility. In this presentation Chris will show you how easy it is to get started and help you put the "+" in Google+ for your organization.

Is your business on Google+? Are your competitors?
