Singer Janelle Monáe has been called “a different kind of diva” by Vogue Magazine, “a true visionary…one of the most important signings of my career” by Sean “Diddy” Combs, and Prince calls her “my favorite new artist.” In 2010 Janelle Monáe released her debut studio album The ArchAndroid which received acclaim from critics and gained a Grammy Nomination for “Best Contemporary R&B Album.” The infectious song “Tightrope” (which features Outkast’s, Big Boi and was the track on a television commercial to promote the Chevy Cruze) was also nominated for “Best Urban/Alternative Performance.” Incredible to watch and inspiring to hear as she sings frantic pop/funk/soul confections…one minute she sounds like James Brown and the next, Judy Garland!
