Canada, Province Sign HST Agreement For B.C. Employees

Mar 10, 2010

(News Release) VICTORIA – The governments of Canada and B.C. signed a human resources agreement to provide provincial public servants with positions within the Canada Revenue Agency as part of the move to wind down PST and implement HST on July 1, 2010.

The Human Resources Agreement (HRA) represents a significant step in the move towards the federal administration of HST. The agreement will help ensure a smooth transition for affected employees and continuous quality service for British Columbians.

The HRA fulfils commitments made in the Nov. 30, 2009 Canada-British Columbia Comprehensive Integrated Tax Co-ordination Agreement (CITCA). The HRA sets provisions for rate of pay, location, employment protection and service recognition.

The HRA encompasses four transition periods with effective dates of appointment for employees commencing on Nov. 1, 2010, July 7, 2011, March 1, 2012 and July 5, 2012.

Additional information is available on the CRA web site at www.cra.gc.ca/harmonization and on the British Columbia HST web site at www.gov.bc.ca/hst.
