Workforce Housing and Immigration Initiatives Supported Nationally

(News Release) VICTORIA – The Victoria Chamber received support for its workforce housing initiative (tax treatment of rental property) and immigration policy, which encourages economic immigration. Both policies received national support at the Canadian Chamber Convention in Hamilton.
The workforce housing policy suggests significant changes to the tax treatment of rental housing to encourage the development of affordable workforce housing. "The lack of affordable workforce housing is a significant impediment in our economy and these tax changes will provide a real incentive to the private sector," said Bruce Carter, Chamber CEO.
The immigration initiative is designed to streamline the labour market assessment process required before a temporary foreign worker or other economic immigrant can begin working in Canada. "An efficient immigration system is key to our long-term economic success," said Carter.
The Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce, with approximately 1,500 members, has received Accreditation with Distinction from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
