Power To Golf Charity Classic a Success

(News Release) VICTORIA — Local charity Power To Be Adventure Therapy raised $110,000 for its annual Power To Golf Charity Classic, held Thursday September 13 at Olympic View Golf Club. Proceeds will help fund Power To Be’s year-round outdoor programs that support local youth and families living with a disability, illness or financial barrier.
In the spirit of partnership, business communities from Victoria and the Lower Mainland joined forces to raise funds to help Power To Be programs reach over 575 families this year. Since inception five years ago, Power To Golf has earned over $450,000 for the charity.
“The continued success of this event, and growth in revenue, speaks to the generosity of our community. Each year we can impact more local youth and families in need of support thanks to the sponsorships, donations and volunteer support behind Power To Golf,” said Tim Cormode, Executive Director. “ On behalf our staff and of all the participants we serve, we are extremely thankful.”
Revenue raised from Power To Golf will support both Power To Be’s program streams, Adaptive Recreation - a positive response to the community need for inclusive, nature based recreation for people living with a barrier or disability, and the Wilderness School a multi-year program for youth that fosters positive social development and leadership skills though wilderness education and outdoor recreation
In the spirit of Power To Be, golfers briefly experienced a disability through challenges designed to emulate what some of the charity’s participants face daily. Teeing off from a wheelchair proved difficult for most, but created a strong connection to the Power To Be mission and its participants.
The evening reception wrapped up with a live auction hosted by The Zone 91.3 FM’s on-air host Jeremy Baker. Bidders had the opportunity to claim some incredible packages including luxury resort stays, yacht sailings, heli-skiing adventures, hockey packages, spectacular wilderness trips and exclusive dinner classes with celebrity chef, Vikram Vij.
