Description:
The position of Payroll Generalist provides an opportunity for someone who would like to make a career move into Payroll, but who lacks experience. Initially, the position will handle more administrative functions, such as benefits administration, data manipulation and reporting requirements. The incumbent will be required to enroll in the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) program. As the successful candidate moves through the CPA program and understanding of payroll functions become greater, the position will evolve into a role that includes payroll processing.
 
As a member of the Human Resources team, the Payroll Generalist will partner with team members to identify solutions, to enable collaboration and cohesion and to ensure that consistently high levels of service are provided to the organization. The Payroll Generalist will make certain that global payroll projects and activities meet client expectations and business needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop understanding of basic payroll requirements and functions;
  • Participate in payroll projects;
  • Monitor integrity of data;
  • Develop, implement and effectively maintain internal operating procedures to accommodate new/revised employee compensation and/or benefit programs;
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing and financial reporting of all benefits;
  • Ensure accurate and timely remittances to all Government Agencies for all taxes, etc; undertake annual reconciliations;
  • Respond to employee and manager inquiries for payroll-related information;
  • Ensure discrepancies and adjustments are attended to, as required;
  • Maintain employee confidence and protect payroll operations by ensuring absolute confidentiality;
  • Develop knowledge of various HR policies and procedures, HR functions and HR systems to ensure payroll services are aligned accordingly; Perform investigation, analysis, evaluation, design and implementation of specific assigned projects relating to operational support, existing or planned, affecting payroll;
  • Develop professional and technical knowledge by attaining Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification through the CPA; attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.

  • Experience working within a fast-paced, complex, dynamic and multi-cultural business environment
  • A proven ability to work independently, a self-start and proactive problem solver
  • High level of integrity with a proven ability to properly handle confidential and sensitive data
  • Proven judgment/decision-making skills Strong Excel, Database and Word Skills


Qualifications:

  • Some Post Secondary education in a related field (i.e. finance, accounting, general business) would be beneficial
  • The incumbent will be required to enroll in the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) program.
